Lunch, Politics, and Mortgages.

I had lunch today with one of the smartest people I know, my bother Tony. We have this running battle as to who’s turn it is to pay for lunch and this time I was able to stick Tony with the bill. Good thing to because we ate at one of the nicest restaurants in Cambridge. It’s called “The Blackshop“. If you like fine dining with a casual flare, you have to put “The Blackshop” on your list.

Tony is very politically astute and is also in the mortgage and real estate game just like I am. We were discussing the impact Jim Flaherty‘s mortgage rule changes have had on the market place. My wife Karen, who is also in the mortgage and real estate game was at a lenders meeting yesterday which had a CMHC person making a small presentation and she said that CMHC’s re-finance business is down 69%!

Now I know what some of you are thinking… that’s a good thing. The government is protecting us from ourselves. But I can assure you that is not the case. What this government is doing is protecting the bank Buddies by taking away people’s ability to rid themselves of unsecured debt like the credit cards. Yes that’s right, these puppies are like crack to borrowers and if they really wanted to help the public, they would tackle this issue head on, because lets face it, that’s what’s causing people to have to re-finance in the first place.

Tony feels this government doesn’t give a shit what these policy changes are doing to people. ¬†They’re just taking care of their rich friends and just sticking it to us as usual. Tony’s motto is “the only good Tory is a suppository”.

So the key is to get out of debt and stay out of debt because let’s face it, these banks want to own you!

There’s some great mortgage products out there that can help you achieve debt freedom faster and I’d like to invite you to contact my wife Karen so she can show you how you can achieve that without affecting your current lifestyle too much. You can reach Karen by clicking right here.

In the meantime, I think I’ll avoid Tony’s phone calls for awhile. Payback’s a bitch and with my luck I know Tony’s going to want to even the score.

Bon Appetit!
